First Grade Wing Mural Proposal

Features
a durable, invitingly touchable, textured surface-
bright, light and weather fast-
aerial, north, East, and south mountains-
landscape with local urban and rural scenes-
many and minute details wherein viewers can locate themselves-
children playing-
native plants and creatures (identified) collage-
a blend of local lifestyles-
star map on the entryway ceiling-
Child and community inspired, designed, and executed sections-
moderated by the artist/educator-
integrated with other studies and school themes.

The grooved siding would have been a real challenge for a surface, but oh, the rewards of working with a whole learning community to create a kind of “self-portrait.” Group-created murals are so rich in images, communication, identity- and relationship-building. I have done them at youth camps, conferences, and dinner meetings. The possibilities are….  see also: my page “Art & Education” for more murals
